12 ideas for the 12 days of Christmas

    1. Pre-Christmas sale

Make way for this year’s Christmas presents by having a clear-out and selling pre-loved items, with all proceeds going to Dementia UK. Fundraising through a second-hand sale will mean those struggling with the cost of Christmas can find budget-friendly gifts while raising vital funds for families facing dementia. A double whammy!

    2. Secret Santa donation

Swap out your Secret Santa this year for a donation to Dementia UK. Opt out of the draw this Christmas and give families facing dementia the gift of life-changing support by donating the cost of your secret Santa present.

    3. Carol concert singalong

Christmas caroling is a fantastic way of getting together to enjoy all the classic seasonal songs. Organise your own carol concert at school, with family and friends, in your community or even with your colleagues – or simply go door-to-door, singing your hearts out and raising donations.

    4. Mince Pie Mingle

Whether at home, at work or in your community, get festive with this seasonal fundraiser. Bake (or buy) your mince pies, heat up the mulled wine and ask for a donation to raise funds. You could even ask people to donate a bit extra to wear their best Christmas jumper.

    5. Gift wrapping

Offer family, friends, colleagues and the community the opportunity to have their gifts wrapped by you in exchange for a donation. You’ll take the stress away from them and they’ll have beautifully wrapped presents ready for the big day! See our Christmas wrapping essentials.

    6. Dress to impress

Put on your glad rags, hold a ‘dress to impress’ day at work and raise money for our Christmas stars: our dementia specialist Admiral Nurses.

    7. Christmas bake-off

Everybody loves Dementia UK’s Time for a Cuppa event, so why not put a Christmas spin on it and get your festive bake on? You could have a Christmas-themed cake and coffee morning or turn it into a competition by asking people to donate to enter their star bake.

    8. Festive deco competition

Organise a best-dressed Christmas tree, front garden, window or even office desk competition with a donation to Dementia UK to enter. You could ask a local business to donate a prize.

    9. Christmas collection

Hold a festive collection day with your colleagues, school or team. It’s a great way to make the most of volunteer days whilst raising funds to support Dementia UK.

    10. Wreath-making class

Looking after your wellbeing is important at this busy time of year, and what could be more therapeutic than creating your own festive wreath? Organise a wreath-making class at home or in a local cafe, with ticket proceeds or donations helping us fund more vital Admiral Nurse services.

    11. Dementia UK Christmas cards

Our new range of Christmas cards is now available to buy from our online shop. There’s a great mix of festive, fun and traditional cards, and every sale will ensure more families can access the specialist dementia support of our Admiral Nurses.

    12. Twelve dips of Christmas

Take on a sponsored daily dip for the 12 days of Christmas. Ask friends and family to donate to your chilly challenge as you brave some wild swimming over the festive period. Make sure you stay safe with these tips from the Outdoor Swimming Society.

    13. Give it up to give back

Why not start the new year healthily by giving up a habit or indulgence? Ask your networks to sponsor you, helping to raise awareness and vital funds for our dementia specialist Admiral Nurses. It might be hard to forgo guilty pleasures like chocolate, caffeine, social media or alcohol but for the month of January (or longer), you could give it up to give back to families facing dementia.

    14. Charity of the year

Make Dementia UK your charity of the year! Choose us as your 2025 charity at your workplace, school or club and we’ll support you to develop a full calendar of fundraising events that will inspire your networks and ensure more families facing dementia get the expert support they need. Email fundraising@dementiauk.org to discuss this further.

    15. Winter Walk

Shake off the Christmas blues and start the new year with a bang by taking on the London Winter Walk. You can choose from the full marathon, half marathon or 10km distances on a route taking in London’s historic bridges and famous landmarks.
