Take on a trek
Step Challenge
Make the most of the light summer evenings and take on a step challenge. Set yourself a number of steps per day and ask for sponsorship to help you hit your target. Every step will help families facing dementia.
Do a street collection
Collections are a fantastic way of raising money whilst also raising awareness of Dementia UK and our amazing specialist dementia Admiral Nurses. It can be a really fun day out for you and your friends, especially if you get creative with fancy dress outfits! Read our street collection guide, and make sure you plan in advance to give you enough time to apply for a licence (if it will take place on public land) or request permission (if it will take place of private property). Get in touch for any advice.
Head shave
It’s getting hot out there, so get the clippers out and raise sponsorship to shed those lovely locks (or beard). Tell donors you’ll post pictures or a video online when you reach your fundraising target.
Hold a summer party
Summer sporting events (like Wimbledon) are a great excuse to set up a big screen at home or at a local venue. Lay on a BBQ and games for the kids. Sell tickets and host a tombola or raffle on the day (download our guide to organising a raffle and sourcing prizes here). Read the advice from the Food Standards Agency on providing food at charity events first!
Do the neighbourhood chores
Get out in your community and offer to do people’s chores in exchange for donations. Washing cars, dog walking and mowing lawns are all great summer jobs that could help you raise lots of money for our specialist dementia nurses.
Summer dress down day
Ask your employer if you can introduce a summer dress down day at work. In return for wearing casual clothes, ask your colleagues to donate a couple of pounds to Dementia UK. You could turn it into a bigger event by asking people to come in wearing Hawaiian shirts or fancy dress and having a competition for the best outfit.
Charity sports match
Get your friends together and organise a friendly sports tournament. Whether it is football, rounders, cricket or a sports day (three-legged race anyone?), you can charge people an entry fee and hold a BBQ afterwards to boost your fundraising.
By raising money for us this summer, more families affected by dementia will be able to access the specialist support from an Admiral Nurse they need.
