The Alzheimer’s and Dementia Show
The UK’s largest and only event covering all aspects of the fight against dementia from drug discovery to treatment to care is taking place at ExCel from 14th-15th June 2024.
Aimed at health and social care professionals and family carers, the Alzheimer’s and Dementia Show will provide a great opportunity to learn, discover solutions, and network with people who work in the sector.
There will be an opportunity to book free 25-minute one-to-one appointments with our dementia specialist Admiral Nurses who offer expert support and advice around any aspect of dementia.
We also have eight of our Admiral Nurses speaking on a number of topics including:
- Supporting families affected by frailty, Kerry Lyons, Consultant Admiral Nurse for Frailty
The session aims to offer a brief introduction to frailty and acute frailty syndromes including what they are, vulnerability, risk factors, symptoms, and indicators and the importance of identification, diagnosis, management, and monitoring.
- Artificial intelligence and dementia: current and future applications, Vic Lyons, Clinical Lead for Digital Services
This session will explain what artificial intelligence (AI) is and how it works including examples of AI in everyday life and health care. Vic will discuss how AI can help and what the future may look like and highlight the challenges and opportunities of using AI for dementia research and care.
- NHS Continuing Healthcare (CHC) – navigating the system, Amy Purton, Admiral Nurse, Core Clinical Services
This session covers what CHC is, the application process including initial checklist, the decision support tool and how families can prepare for the assessment.
- Why is this happening? (behaviour, communication; advice on how to manage). Helen Green, Deputy Clinical Lead Admiral Nurse and Daniel Starck, Deputy Clinical Lead Admiral Nurse
This session looks at changes in behaviour as dementia progresses, possible reasons for this focusing on underlying emotions and thought processes/beliefs. Also looking at the impact changes in cognitive functioning can have and finally advice on approaches that carers can take to manage some changes in behaviour that may present as a challenge.
- Recognising and preparing for end of life with dementia, Sheridan Coker, Deputy Clinical Lead Admiral Nurse and Mandy Cheyne, Admiral Nurse, Core Clinical Services
This session will look at palliation versus end of life; how to plan for the future; recognising end stages of dementia and resources to help you plan.
- Anatomy of a primary care dementia service, Rikki Lorenti, Lead Admiral Nurse, Dementia Support Team, Havant and Waterlooville PCN
This session seeks to answer whether primary care can be the central provider of practical and emotional support through liaison, signposting, psychological support and education.

Our free exhibition highlights how dementia impacts children
We asked children of all ages to submit drawings that describe their experience of dementia. We received a host of brilliant entries which we will be proudly displaying in a pop-up exhibition in London’s Paternoster Square between Monday 11th March and Sunday 17th March 2024.
